‘HARD HITTING?’ GN Review – Kick-Ass 3: Mark Millar & John Romita Jr. with Tom Palmer (Titan Books)
Day Seven of our graphic novel review a day here at Tripwire and today it’s Kick-Ass 3, written by Mark Millar and drawn by John Romita Jr. and Tom Palmer, and published by Titan Books.
The second sequel to Millar and Romita Jr’s over-the-top superhero series about ordinary American boy Dave Lizewski who decided to fight crime dressed as Kick-Ass. Here, Kick-Ass’s female sidekick Hit-Girl is in prison and so Kick-Ass has to decide what to do with his life. Meanwhile, he has to fight east coast crime boss Rocco Genovese, who is bent on becoming supreme godfather of the entire east coast.
Millar has created a niche for himself where he has become the Bruckheimer and Simpson of the modern comics world, so if you liked the previous two Kick-Ass comics, then you’ll like this. You can’t help but admire Millar’s brass neck: he has made a career out of putting out comics whose sole purpose is to shock his audience. Kick-Ass 3 is more of the same from Mark Millar and like having a burger from McDonalds every now and again, there’s no nutritional value here but sometimes you’re just tempted…
