Ahead of that, he answered a few questions about the new collection…
TRIPWIRE: How does it feel to have the two volumes out in one collection ?
JOEL MEADOWS: This is a book that’s been 25 years in the making and it’s very exciting to see it in one volume especially at this oversized format. Working with Mad Cave Studios to get this out to a wider audience has been fantastic too.
TW: How different is the collection from the previous versions of the story?
JM: We have a brand new introduction from acclaimed writer JM DeMatteis (Moonshadow, Kraven’s Last Hunt) as well as presenting the story in one format.
TW: How does it feel to have the opportunity to sign and talk about Holmes publicly at book shops in London ?
JM: It’s great to have the opportunity to talk about the series and read from the book for an audience and engage with any fans of our Holmes books.
TW: How does it feel to have the prose novella out for people to buy as well?
JM: The prose novella was harder to write than the graphic novel as with the graphic novel, I could fall back on Andy Bennett’s art but with the prose novella, it all fell to me to tell a story that was entertaining and engaging. It also needed to be a more traditional Holmes tale and so I was standing on Doyle’s shoulders even more than in the graphic novel, which was daunting at times. Editor Jeff Mariotte really helped to shape this book and his input and experience was invaluable
TW: How would you describe Sherlock Holmes and The Empire Builders The Gene Genie The Collection in one sentence?
JM: The world’s greatest detective as people have never seen him before without his trusted ally but people underestimate him at their cost. Fans of Doyle and Holmes should check the collection out.
