7. Today’s choice is Crossover Volume 1: Kids Love Chains by Donny Cates, Geoff Shaw and Dee Cunliffe, Image Comics.
I am a sucker for well-written, beautifully drawn cross-company crossovers. Stick as many different flavors of flagship heroes and heroines from publishers across the four-colour spectrum within a funnybook’s pages, and I am freaking giddy. But comics scribe Donny Cates and illustrator Geoff Shaw’s Crossover: Kids Love Chains is nothing less than brilliance in concept and coordination.
Who are the super-powered biggies presented in this amazing series? What are the surprises found within? You won’t get those from me because I am not going to spoil it for you. I will say this: Picking up copies of Cates and Shaw’s The Paybacks from Dark Horse Comics and God Country from Image Comics would help you get a lay of the land – but even those hints are just a foundation for fun. What these talented storytellers are building is so much bigger and better than you will ever believe, and us readers are all the better for it.
Dig for yourself. It’s well worth it.
