Another birthday. Another year around the sun. Sitting here in my studio, looking at 45 years worth of Nexus pages, and honestly? I’m overwhelmed.
Not gonna sugarcoat it – this year’s been rough. Jaynelle’s been through hell with her surgeries, and I’ve had my own scares. There were nights I couldn’t sleep, wondering if everything we built would just… disappear.
The lights actually got shut off this month. THE LIGHTS. In my studio. Where I’ve drawn your commissions, created your favorite characters, taught everything I know about this craft. Jaynelle’s been working herself to death trying to keep us afloat. 100-hour weeks. It’s killing me to watch.
But you know what keeps me going? Saturdays at 1:30. Seeing your names pop up in the livestream chat. The kid who messages me about learning to draw like the “old masters.” The collector who’s been with me since Capital Comics. You.
45 years of Nexus. Man, we were all so young when this started, weren’t we? Now look at us. Still here. Still believing that hand-drawn art matters. That stories about hope and heroism aren’t outdated.
I need to ask for your help. Not easy for me – you know that. But we’ve got 30 days to make this work or we lose everything. The house, the studio, those Saturday streams where we just talk art and life.
