Detective DAVID HASTINGS accidentally discovers there’s been a serial killer operating in Pittsburgh since the 1880s! Sure, it sounds crazy. That’s why he and his partner, Detective STEVE METCALF, decide to investigate it on their own. It might be the last mistake they ever make!
Creator/Writer JC Vaughn (Al Capone, Vampire) and artist Giancarlo Caracuzzo (Night of the Living Dead) present this full-color, 48-page one-shot with a choice of covers. The book is ready to go to press (no kidding, it’s a print-ready PDF right now) and we just need our backers’ help to get it across the finish line.
The creative team is rounded out by Flavia Caracuzzo on colours, Mindy Lopkin on letters, Jason Odom on edits, Dawn Guzzo on design, producer Shawn Sipple, and video and campaign graphics producer Mark Haynes.
Cover A is by Simone Guglielmini (Near Death) with colors by Noelle Giddings (Static). Cover by is by John K. Snyder III (Doctor Mid-Nite), and Cover C is by Barry Orkin (Stoker & Wells: Order of the Golden Dawn).
“Dead Inspector is something that’s been rattling around in my head for years. I actually left a party in college to make the first notes on it. For a longtime I tried to figure out how I wanted to do it. I was a huge fan of Simone’s work on Near Death for Image, and I hired him to do a cover for Al Capone, Vampire. It was wonderful. What was even better was that he had a second piece. When I saw it, everything clicked in my head. After all the false starts, boom! Suddenly I knew I wanted Giancarlo, who had done a short Capone story for me, to do the art, and it just came together very quickly from that point.”

JC Vaughn is best known as the President of Gemstone Publishing, the home of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. In addition to Dead Inspector, he created or co-created Al Capone, Vampire and Vampire, PA (with Brendon & Brian Fraim), Zombie-Proof (with Vincent Spencer), Return of the Human (with Mark Wheatley), Antiques, Bedtime Stories for Impressionable Children, McCandless & Company, and others. He has written or co-written 24, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate Universe (all with Mark Haynes), Battlestar Galactica, Mighty Samson (with former Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Jim Shooter), Shi (with Billy Tucci), DC’s Blue Beetle, and Cory Doctorow’s Futuristic Tales of the Here & Now. In addition to comics, he has written for animation, trading cards, magazines, newspapers, and websites.
