Actor Doug Jones has often been referred to as the Boris Karloff of our time. This in depth feature length documentary seeks to find out how an actor & mime went from humble beginnings in the American Midwest to becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought after performers when it comes to creating fantastic creatures in full body make-up & costumes. From his early start on projects such as MAC TONIGHT, BATMAN RETURNS and BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER to major motion pictures like HELLBOY I & II and FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER, television work including STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS to the multi Oscar-winning films PAN’S LABYRINTH and THE SHAPE OF WATER, this documentary will explore the rich, vibrant life and career of this Hollywood legend.

This documentary will showcase the incredible life that Doug Jones has lived, not only focusing on his iconic career, but also on the deeply personal relationships he has held with family, friends and fans.

The journey of Doug’s life will take audiences from Indiana, to Hollywood, then around the world. Doug’s whirlwind life of making movies and meeting fans will be showcased through footage of him filming in Hollywood, Mexico & Canada along with his travels to meet fans in England, Europe, South America and Asia. Doug also takes a very special visit to the nation of Sealand, which he has the title of Duke from (this story is so cool, you’ll have to see it to believe it!).

One of the highlight moments of the documentary will be an in depth, behind the scenes look at the process in which Doug Jones was transformed into Saru for the very last time while filming the series finale of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. This unprecedented access to the inner workings of a modern Star Trek series, mixed with the emotion of Doug’s last time getting into character makes for a moment that fans will never forget.

Themes will include Doug’s personal and professional triumphs, his tragedies, his incredible work ethic and extreme lengths he went to bring his characters to life, his powerful connections to those who have been moved by his performances, a look into his mentorship of the next generation of artist, and thought provoking discussion about whether performers like Doug receive the accolades they truly deserve.
