Help Us Get Over The Line

Tripwire is back with an illustrated novella version of Sherlock Holmes And The Empire Builders Down And Out In London and we’re already at 88 per cent funded with the campaign ending this Friday lunchtime…

Down and Out in London is the first prose novella set in the World of the Empire Builders. Holmes has lost his house in Baker Street and is now living homeless on the streets of London. So how does he restore his reputation as the world’s greatest detective? This is the perfect bridge between Conan Doyle’s work and the World of the Empire Builders.

“I am excited to get my first prose work to the readers. I have loved Sherlock Holmes since I was a child so here is an original 150-page prose novella which gives fans of the Empire Builders the opportunity to find out more about how Holmes found himself in his predicament at the beginning of the first graphic novel. It will be a fun and enjoyable ride.” – Joel Meadows, Editor-in-Chief, Tripwire Magazine

After the reception of the edition of our novella with photographs by myself, we thought we would offer something else new and different. This edition includes new art and a brand new cover from my Empire Builders artist and co-creator Andy Bennett. For fans of the graphic novel series, this is perfect.

This campaign will allow us to put this unique project out there. As well as a regular paperback, people will be able to grab a regular hardcover, a digital version and also a limited-edition handsome hardcover too.

A 150 page A5 novella complete with 20 brand new black and white images created specifically for this edition by Andy Bennett plus a brand new cover image created by him too.

“When you think there is nothing more to be said or done with Sherlock Holmes, along come Meadows and Bennett to breathe fresh life into the great detective. Bravo! I’m thoroughly enjoying this original tale!”– Michael Moorcock, fantasy writing legend, Elric, Jerry Cornelius

”Sherlock Holmes and the Empire Builders – an inspiringly inventive account of the great detective’s later years and those of Dr Watson, an alarming vision of what might have been, an authentic addition to the canon, taking it places that feel inevitable and yet startling. Here’s to more!” – Ramsey Campbell, writer, The Parasite, The Hungry Moon

“Sherlock Holmes is a stranger in a strange land, but still as sharp, acidic and determined as ever. For fans of deft, epic world-building and Sherlockians everywhere — this is a heady mix!” – Patton Oswalt, writer, Minor Threats, actor

“If you thought nothing new could be done with the Great Detective, check out Sherlock Holmes and The Empire Builders, a labour of love by Joel Meadows and Andy Bennett.” – Bryan Talbot, writer/artist, Grandville, Luther Arkwright

People can also grab original art from Andy Bennett too but it’s limited to just four pieces:

We have added a brand new add-on too: an audio adaptation of the entire novella. To see how it will sound, here’s three sample chapters read by myself:
