Although Fantastic Four hasn’t exactly set the world alight at the box office here are 4 teams/creators who have worked on the comic who perhaps they should have turned to for inspiration

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby

The parents of the Fantastic Four, Lee & Kirby created the team back in 1961,  and bought such memorable creations as The Silver Surfer, Galactus and Black Panther to life during their run. They showed the dangers as well as the benevolence of science and in doing so made the Marvel Universe an epic and wonderful place

Stan Lee and John Buscema

The Silver Surfer first appeared in the Fantastic Four and the character was fleshed out in his own book in 1968. Lee and Buscema produced a book that was even more epic than its progenitor

John Byrne and Terry Austin

During a five year run that started in 1981, John Byrne with the aid of inker Terry Austin shook up the status quo of the team, spinning The Thing off into his own book and bringing She-Hulk into the team. Byrne showed a deft hand for the cosmic but not at the expense of characterisation.

Walter Simonson

Not a team so much as a one-man powerhouse, Simonson steered the fortunes of Marvel’s first family from 1990 into 1991 and even though he was only on it for a relatively short period, he channelled a love of Kirby with his own unique brand of character-driven action he had made such a success during his long run on Thor in the 1980s.
