Mad Max Fury Road Inspired Artists Deluxe Edition

Published by Vertigo/ DC Comics, art by various

Mad Max has cast a very long shadow over popular culture and since Vertigo have published a four part comic series prequel, it made perfect sense for them to produce an art book featuring pieces by some of the best artists in the business giving their interpretations of the world of Mad Max. The problem here is not the quality of who has contributed and what they have produced: everyone from John Paul Leon to Bill Sienkiewicz, Tommy Lee Edwards to Paul Pope have all turned in work that they should be proud of. However these are images which are landscape in shape, but the book is portrait format. So the impact of their work is diminished because it is disrupted by the fold in the book. Standout images include the Dave Johnson, Tommy Lee Edwards, Paul Pope and Dan Panosian but the range and diversity on show here is amazing, showing the love that the comics industry has for Miller’s dystopian world. It’s just a shame that it is let down by a poor choice of format. So I would recommend Mad Max Fury Road Inspired Artists Deluxe Edition but with reservations because of the format rather than the content…
