A peek into the chaotic, cluttered and downright disturbing mind of Mark Stafford.

Comics, beer mats, posters, kitchen aprons – there’s nothing he can’t turn his twisted mind and idiosyncratic talent to.

If you know his work, you’ll want this book.

If you don’t know his work, you need this book.

ABOUT THE CREATOR

Mark Stafford is an illustrator and cartoonist who has been writing and drawing comics of all kinds for, ooooh, yonks now.

He co-created the Dark Horse graphic novel Cherubs!, with Bryan Talbot, and with the writer David Hine he has collaborated on the horror serial The Bad Bad Place for Meanwhile… from Soaring Penguin Press, as well as two books for Self Made Hero, an adaptation of Victor Hugo’s romantic tragedy The Man Who Laughs, and Lip Hook, a ‘tale of rural unease’

Alongside these he has contributed creepy nonsense and bitter satire to numerous anthologies, has been on a fair few gallery walls, designed and drawn beer labels, theatre posters and at least one mural, was twice selected by the British Council to work on projects in Korea, and has been the long term ‘cartoonist in residence’ at the Cartoon Museum in London since 2008.

ABOUT SOARING PENGUIN PRESS

Soaring Penguin Press is an Eisner and Ignatz Award nominated UK-based graphic novel publisher.

Established in 2010 (but in existence much earlier), Soaring Penguin Press have published a number of notable titles, including Loisel’s Peter Pan (in English for the first time), To End All Wars: the Graphic Anthology of the First World War (nominated for two Eisner Awards), Ellen Lindner’s The Black Feather Falls (nominated for an Ignatz for Outstanding Series).

More recently, we published Black, Tobias Taitt’s autobiographical story of being second-generation Windrush in 1980s UK, and Ilana Zeffren’s Urban Tails, a Tel Aviv-based collection of stories about Ilana, her wife and their two cats. But mostly about their two cats.

RISKS AND CHALLENGES

The book is done, we just need to print it. Tim Pilcher and John Anderson (that’s us) have been in the comics industry for decades. We’ve been bringing books to print for a while now and this is our third year of crowdfunding campaigns, so we’re getting the hang of this now. We aim to have the book out by May 2023 in time for Pride Month UK. We’ll have the PDF to you shortly after the campaign ends – just as soon as you fill in the Backers’ Survey.
