Hellboy Reboot Has Been Pushed Back 3 Months to April 2019

Hellboy fans will have to wait a little longer to see the half-demon hero in cinemas again.

The film’s release date has been pushed back to 12 April 2019, Summit Entertainment announced Wednesday. It previously had been set to open 11 Jan. 2019. The new date means Hellboy will open just one week after fellow superhero movie Shazam! from Warner Bros. and DC. That film opens 5 April 2019.

12 April 2019 already has a few wide releases set to debut, and Hellboy will now square off against Robert Downey Jr.’s The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle from Universal, as well as Fox’s Breakthrough (starring Chrissy Metz and Topher Grace) and the YA adaptation After from Aviron Pictures.

Hellboy stars Stranger Things actor David Harbour in the title role and has a script from the comic book character’s creator, Mike Mignola, who penned the script along with Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden. The Descent and Game of Thrones‘ helmer Neil Marshall is directing the project. Hellboy also stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane and Daniel Dae Kim.

The Hellboy team will be at New York Comic Con next week, sparking speculation that the first trailer could debut then. The reboot follows two films from director Guillermo Del Toro and star Ron Perlman.
