Geoff Johns Promoted To DC’s President
Johns Moves Up At DC
♦He has been part of a lot of DC’s big media announcements over the past few months including writing the Wonder Woman movie, previewing the Justice League film and now a few days after SDCC, Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Geoff Johns is now DC’s president…
Following initial online reports, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Johns now holds the title of president and chief creative officer at the Warner Bros. division, answerable to Diane Nelson, who remains president of DC Entertainment, president of Warner Bros. Consumer Products and president and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Johns received the new job title when he was promoted to head up DC’s movie division alongside Jon Berg back in May. Already on board to develop the stand-alone Batman movie with Ben Affleck, it has since been revealed that Johns co-wrote the screenplay for Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman with Allan Heinberg from a story by Johns, Heinberg and Zack Snyder.
The new position comes six years after Johns — whose comic book writing résumé includes a 50-issue stint on Justice League and lengthy runs on Green Lantern, The Flash and Justice Society of America — was named as the CCO of DC Entertainment, a position which saw him involved in the development of TV shows including The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow in addition to DC’s growing movie slate.
As his duties outside of comics grew, his comic book output decreased; in May, his final (for now) comic book titles were released: the 50th issue of Justice League and the oversized DC Universe: Rebirth special issue, which started a successful relaunch of DC’s superhero line in which creators worked with Johns to find new directions for characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Arrow.
Johns’ new title is one of a number of changes to the DC hierarchy in recent months; a number of additional internal moves have been made including John Cunningham going from vp, content strategy to senior vp, sales and trade marketing and Amit Desai going from senior vp, marketing and global franchise management to exec vp, business & marketing strategy, direct to consumer and global franchise management.
