Frank Miller was in Brazil a couple of weeks ago and here’s a report on his panel at the CCXP show in Brazil.
It is no secret that public appearances of Frank Miller are increasingly scarce. Although he’s been a bit more public in recent years, the legendary comic creator remains reserved and only participates in events that tie in with his work. This was the case at CCXP 2015, which marked his first – and perhaps only – trip to Brazil.
Frank Miller was honest in all his answers, responding to the mediator’s questions, Marcelo Hessel, or questions from the audience. In front of over 2000 people, Miller recalled his childhood – when he promised his mother, at 5 years of age when he first started drawing comics – told everyone how he accepted very little work from publishers until they became a real comic creator and even spoke about cinema.

Miller remembered when he first arrived at Marvel without any experience to work on a Spider-Man story. Not long after, he worked on Daredevil and it changed his life. Despite the great care that the makers have taken with the character and his creation, Elektra, the author still did not feel like watching the show produced by Netflix. Instead, he prefers not to have direct contact with this material. And when asked about the presence of Elektra in the second season of the show, Frank Miller said: “They can’t just do what you want. “When asked about feeling like the father of the character, Miller said “yes, I’m her father.” The audience applauded.
Batman was the most discussed subject on the panel for obvious reasons. Frank Miller is releasing Dark Knight III: The Master Race in the country, even if it wasn’t out by the time the show happened. The relationship between the author and Batman is long, and there are no plans for this relationship to end. “I’ve always preferred Batman to super-powerful people,” he said. After reaffirming that DK III is a story written by Brian Azzarello who has his blessing.
When the panel was opened to questions from fans, many were nervous to speak with the legendary comic creator. One of them stole the panel’s attention. They were very moved and with a copy of 300 in hand, the fan could not ask their question they were crying so much. They just asked for an autograph and Miller happily gave them his signature and let them take a selfie with them.

A fan asked Miller if he already had a new project planned after the end of Dark Knight III, and the comic creator reiterated what he has said in some interviews – a new comic featuring Sin City, called Sin City in 1945, which will be set at the end of World War II and will feature a secret agent fighting against the Nazis. More details of the plot were not disclosed.
If the reader was wondering, the title of this story does have some relevance. After answering a few questions about his characterisation of Superman, Frank Miller revealed that he still may create a story starring the Man of Steel in which Batman is asshole. “I’m thinking of a story with Superman where Batman is the bad guy,” he said, which was followed by loud applause.
The fans can hardly wait.
