The Battle to Rule The Seven Kingdoms Is Coming

♦Game of Thrones Season Six started back in April in the US and in the UK, and our friends over at EW have details of this coming week’s Episode Eight and a few details about the last two episodes of the series too. Warning: Spoilers for those who aren’t up to date with the current series…

HBO.com has confirmed the titles and running time of the final two episodes of Game of Thrones Season 6. One of these titles could actually be construed as a spoiler, however, so if you want to truly know nothing about the last two episodes, then stop reading this now…

The title of episode 9 (and this is definitely the spoilery one) is “The Battle of the Bastards” – presumably referring to the epic Jon Snow vs. Ramsay Bolton face-off that they’ve been teasing all season. The Thrones showrunners have previously told us that season 6 includes the biggest battle in the show’s history and it’s fair to assume this is it. The running time is 60 minutes, which is definitely on the long side for an episode. That episode airs on 19 June.

The title of the finale is “The Winds of Winter” – which is a nod to George R.R. Martin’s forthcoming sixth novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire Saga (which was also given a verbal shout-out by Arya’s favourite theater troupe in Braavos earlier this season). The finale is a huge 69 minutes long – which makes it the longest Thrones episode ever. That airs on 26 June in the US and 27 June in the UK. Both episodes are directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who helmed last year’s acclaimed episode “Hardhome.”

There are no descriptions yet for either episode, despite a bogus “leaked” finale description that some sites posted. That one includes a rather hilarious Lady Stoneheart trolling attempt – “Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) meets a friend turned foe” – as if the Thrones producers would ever put such a baiting line in their ultra-vague descriptions).

But there is a description for episode 8, “No One,” which airs this Sunday in the US and the day after over here: While Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) weighs his options, Cersei (Lena Headey) answers a request. Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) plans bear fruit. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a new test. Written by David Benioff & D. B. Weiss; directed by Mark Mylod.

A lot has already happened including the viewers discovering the fate of Jon Snow (Kit Harington), the death of the remaining members of the House of Martell, the reappearance of Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), Cersei Lanister (Lena Headey)’s battle to return to a position of influence, Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger) is back, the death of Hodor and much more.
