Bring On The Bad Guys

♦With Deadpool doing such great business at the box office, Tripwire gives its list of the other comic book bad guys who could make the transition to the big screen…

1. Lobo
   DC’s alien bounty hunter first made his appearance in The Omega Men back in the 1980s and the last Czarnian takes no shit from anybody. Lobo has been optioned but never made it to the cinema. That may change now.
2. Spawn
   Todd McFarlane’s undead superhero has been made into one movie in the 1990s but there has been talk on and off of a sequel or even a reboot.
3. John Constantine
   Originally a supporting character in DC’s Swamp Thing, this wisecracking Scouse magician made the move over to their mature imprint Vertigo and then back to the main DC universe during DC’s New 52 reboot. He did make it to television but that was killed after one season last year.
4. Deathstroke The Terminator
   Appearing as a villain in CW’s hit Arrow series on TV, Teen Titans villain Deathstroke is like a more upmarket version of Marvel’s The Punisher. So we may seen this assassin heading to the big screen at some point.
5. Catwoman
   Batman’s on-off ally, Selina Kyle isn’t really to be trusted, often playing one side against the other. Catwoman has appeared in Nolan’s Batman The Dark Knight Rises but with the reboot for the DC Universe on screen, you never know.
6. Namor
   Introduced as a throwaway creation at Marvel’s predecessor Timely back in 1939, Namor aka The Submariner was remade as an adversary for the Fantastic Four in the 1960s. DC is bringing Aquaman to the cinema so it seems likely the king of Atlantis will follow suit soon.
7. Jesse Custer
   Preacher is coming to television this year courtesy of AMC, the channel that shows The Walking Dead, but Ennis and Dillon’s Southern preacher with a supernatural power may see the big screen before too long. Still one of Vertigo’s best comic series.
8. Hellboy
   Mike Mignola’s demon raised by British scientist has already had two big screen outings with Ron Perlman stepping into the big red hand but there are rumours of a third movie. Let’s hope Del Toro and Perlman can make it happen.
9. Judge Dredd
   2000AD’s favourite future lawman has been portrayed by Sylvester Stallone and Karl Urban in two very different movies but he is just too great a dark comic character to stay off the screen for too long.
10. The Goon
    Eric Powell’s enforcer with a secret has been attached to a movie for a number of years and with such a unique approach, it could make a very memorable movie.
