Darryl from The Walking Dead Speaks

With season 6 starting today, imdb.com spoke to The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus aka Daryl and he gave them a few clues about what to expect in the new series…

MV5BNjc2NDM4MTEwOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNzU2ODEwMzE@._V1._SY412_CR69,0,412,412_NORMAN REEDUS: We have a lot of new cast members, a lot of new conflict … I think all the characters are trying to hold on to who they are and some semblance of who they used to be. There’s a lot of people mistrusting each other and doing stuff like that. So, there’s a lot of inner turmoil happening this season.

NR: He’s a very different character than he was in the beginning. In a lot of ways, he had a huge chip on his shoulder when the first season kicked off. And now, he’s kind of become proud of the person that he is, and he’s a fighter. H’s got other people that are sort of on his side, and that gives him a purpose because of them being willing to fight [alongside him], too. He’s fighting with a team.

NR: He doesn’t agree with me on everything, which is very Rick-like. But he’s becoming the brother that Merle wasn’t in a lot of ways. And Daryl always has his back. That’s that relationship. So, Rick’s trying really hard. He goes into a nice neighborhood, and he tells them things are tough on the outside even when they’re doing great, and wrecks their world by accident, quite a bit. But they’re like brothers, and they’ll always fight for each other.

MV5BMTk1ODU3MDA1M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDA0ODg5NDE@._V1._SY412_CR105,0,412,412_IMDB.COM:Viewers loved when they got to see new sides of Daryl when he got closer to Beth, though it didn’t work out so well for her. Is there a character this season who Daryl bonds with?

NR: He’s formed a bond with Aaron. When people talk about how hard their lives are, I think to them, that’s the hardest thing in the world. He judged that guy not by what he was saying but by what he did. Everything he said was the truth, and he ended up being a stand-up guy, and that’s how that relationship played. There’s a lot of characters this season that you don’t know if they’re going to fight or be friends, and a lot of unlikely partnerships are forming.

IMDB.COM: You always get to do some really exciting action scenes. Is there something coming up you can tease that was especially cool?

NR: Oh, yeah! It’s right after midseason. That’s where all the stuff really starts to kick off. And that’s all I can say.

IMDB.COM: Is that aspect of the role especially fun for you?

NR: I love doing all that stuff. Sometimes I put my foot in my mouth and I say I’ll do it. And I end up eating half a bottle of Advil because I’m in so much pain.
