The Most Important Comic Book On Earth is a hefty 350 paperback featuring some of the most notable comics talent in the world including Sean Phillips, Charlie Adlard, Robert Kirkman, Kieron Gillen, Alan Moore and Cliff Chiang but also celebrities like Taika Waititi, Ricky Gervais, Sir Lenny Henry and Peter Gabriel.
Editor Paul Goodenough’s aim here was to gather together a whole range of different talents to bring attention to climate change, ecological issues and offer up some suggestions about how we can help to turn these around over the next few years. The Most Important Comic Book On Earth is a grand project with an important political message.
It is definitely the most ambitious and passionate comic project of 2021 which offers a huge range of different kinds of comic creators, including those from the mainstream to the more independent side of the industry, bringing them together to engage with the general public to get their message across. It is definitely a project that makes the reader think and hopefully will galvanise people to act to reverse some of the damage that has been done. Visually it is a pleasure to see the likes of David Mack to Jeff Lemire, Mark Buckingham to Mike Perkins, Dani to Aneke Murillenem next to a whole raft of indie cartoonists and other names that are less well known.
Goodenough has assembled an amazing line-up of comics talent and also got some high-profile celebrity names involved too in this project and so any list of top graphic novels of 2021 would have been incomplete without its inclusion.
