For any music lover out there, perhaps the biggest story right now is that Sam Mendes has announced he’s going to make four movies about The Beatles, one for each Beatle. The Fab 4 have long been heralded as pioneers in their field and have inspired more bands than anyone else we can think off. Add in the fact that their two surviving members are performing into their eighties and you see that this is very much a super group in every sense of the word…

What has been announced?

Sam Mendes is going to start making four interconnected films that will be released closely spaced in April 2028. While this may sound like this is too long to wait, we can be sure that there are going to be more than a few teasers and trailers dropped over the course of the next three years. When you consider that this will be the first time the families of Lennon and Harrison have come together with Ringo and Paul to grant permission for all the music rights to be used in a scripted film, we think three more years mean nothing.

Who will play the legendary musicians?

McCartney is going to be played by Paul Mescal who is fresh off the set of Gladiator II and was recently Oscar nominated for his role in Aftersun. Barry Keoghan — nominated for his work on The Banshees of Inisherin — is going to bring Ringo Starr onto the big screen in his own unique way. Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things is going to bring George Harrison to the party, while Harris Dickinson has biggest challenge of all because he will be playing John Lennon. You may have seen him in Babygirl alongside the legendary Nicole Kidman.

Which movie is coming out first?  

Nothing from this information has been announced yet, but we have a prediction. It will start with Ringo and end with Lennon so that the fame of the main characters will be on the rise. And because we’re expecting each of the leading men to appear in all four movies, there’s going to be plenty of crossover and new angles from which we can look at the iconic moments. Is this the start of cinema binging?

Sony certainly think so, and it’s a sure bet that we’re going to see a movie per week released throughout April 2028.
