The Bridge Writer’s Marcella Comes To UK TV
Scandi Writer’s British TV Show Starts Tonight
♦The Bridge scribe Hans Rosenfeldt has switched to writing in English for new ITV drama Marcella, starring Anna Friel. The show starts tonight on ITV in the UK and here is the trailer for it
Marcella, produced by Buccaneer Media for ITV, is co-created by Rosenfeldt and Nicola Larder and follows a police officer who returns to London’s Murder Squad after a 12-year break to take on an unsolved murder case from a decade earlier. The drama will bow on Netflix globally on July 1, outside of the U.K. and Ireland, where Marcella premieres on April 4.
“We got involved with the series early on in the process to gain the opportunity to bring Hans’ great storytelling to our members around the world – right after its initial U.K. broadcast on ITV,” said Larry Tanz, vp global TV at Netflix, on Monday in a statement.
Anna Friel, Laura Carmichael, Nicholas Pinnock, Sinead Cusack and Harry Lloyd star in Marcella, which was commissioned by ITV after the Scandinavian TV thriller The Bridge was remade for the U.S. and the U.K. The eight-episode one-hour series is executive produced by Rosenfeldt, Larder and Tony Wood for Buccaneer Media, a division of Canadian-based studio Cineflix Media.
