Having one Lance sister shuffle off this mortal coil is unfortunate. Having two croak looks like profligacy. Introducing a Dinah Lance at this point would have been difficult, but happily the Golden Age Black Canary’s name, Dinah Drake was still available. So enter Juliana Harkavy as Drake, an undercover cop who witnesses her partner die just as the particle accelerator explodes in Central City. Screaming when the wave hits gives her sonic powers. And now, Harkavy is a series regular, and she puts on the Black Canary uniform. Which fits very nicely as you can see from the EW pic below:
Happily, this being the DC Universe, Katie Cassidy is returning as an alternate reality version of Laurel Lance (Earth-2) who is the evilish Black Siren who also has sonic powers. The two already had a donnybrook in the season finale, but they’ll be facing off as quickly as you can say ‘girl fight.’ Below, Harkavy talks about her future in the series. Arrow returns for Season 6 this Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on the CW.
