Abandon Hope Once Again

Heavy Metal has just released a second edition of Bob Fingerman’s Dotty’s Inferno now with new pin-ups by Bill Sienkiewicz, Mike Mignola and Adam Brooks and here’s an exclusive preview of the new edition…

“Though I started work on Dotty’s Inferno in 2015, the therapeutic aspect didn’t kick in until you-know-who was elected. From that point on, Hell became my happy place. My version of Hell, while modeled on Dante’s canonic “reportage,” is somewhat less dire. Dotty’s torments fall more into the category of fetch quests taking her into domains other than her office — New Male Arrivals Division.

My roots are firmly in underground comix, classic gag cartoonists like Gahan Wilson and Kliban, MAD Magazine and, of course, Heavy Metal Magazine, which is so ingrained in my creative DNA that Dotty’s Inferno could only really belong with them. Dotty’s Inferno takes that MAD aesthetic and blends it with the freedom of underground comix to create a puree of undiluted adult humour.”

Meet Dotty. In life, she was a call girl. In death, she’s been damned to work in Hell’s Inhuman Resources department, New Male Arrivals Division, assigning wayward souls their crummy afterlives. All the same, Dotty spends more time away from her desk on odd jobs and adventures, be they fetching Cerberus from Hell’s dog pound to licking psychotropic toads’ heads and tripping ballz. Forever is a long time, so might as well make the best of a hellish situation. Includes a new story and gallery featuring “pin-ups” by John Cebollero, Howard Chaykin, Dave Johnson, Mike Mignola, Dan Panosian and Bill Sienkiewicz.
