New York Officially Renames Corner Of Streets After Jack Kirby

Today at 12noon EST, NW corner of Essex & Delancey Sts. in New York now become Jack Kirby Way…
Speaker include: street naming campaign lead Roy Schwartz, NYC Council Member Christopher Marte, Executive Editor of Marvel Comics Tom Brevoort, DC Comics former president and publisher Paul Levitz, legendary comics artist Jim Steranko, and Tracy, Jeremy, and Jillian Kirby.
“Jack Kirby has been my favourite comic book creator since I was 8. His characters and stories have given me so much joy and inspiration, that I was able to do this for him feels like giving a little back. It’s my honour and pleasure,”said Roy Schwartz, pop culture historian and author. Board member of the American Jewish Historical Society, board member of the Jack and Roz Kirby Awards. Jack “King of Comics” Kirby is the creator or co-creator of: Captain America, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Thor, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Avengers, X-Men, Silver Surfer, Black Panther, New Gods, and countless other characters and concepts. He also played a role in the creation of Spider-Man and Daredevil.
About Jack Kirby Way
Jack Kirby was born Jacob Kurtzberg on August 28, 1917, at 147 Essex Street on New York City’s Lower East Side.
Jack Kirby Way co-names Essex Street between Delancey & Rivington Streets, one block south from Kirby’s birthplace. He spent his childhood mostly on Delancey, a more major thoroughfare, and it’s Delancey that he immortalized in his Fantastic Four and other comics as Yancy Street.
The “Jack Kirby Way” sign will be added to the northwest corner of Essex & Delancey, three blocks away from the Williamsburg Bridge. Nearly 200,000 people pass the corner each day.
