2024 has started well for the film industry, as many films have already been released and enjoyed a lot of popularity. But as 2024 will be here for quite an extended period, more and more films will arrive, which have been expected and anticipated by numerous individuals around the world. 2023 was an excellent year for the film industry, where Barbie and Oppenheimer stole the spotlight and were recognised as one of the most influential films of the year. Will 2024 be as successful as 2023? We don’t know that yet, as we will surely not get another Barbenheimer, but we can still be surprised positively. And it seems that 2024 has them all, from arthouse drama to superhero flicks and even musical releases.

Challengers

The release date of Challengers was on 26 April, and this movie is expected to be enjoyed by film lovers for plenty of reasons. For once, the storyline is a simple, but also interesting one, where the movie follows the life of three tennis players who find themselves in a longstanding love triangle. Even though in the past, Patrick (Josh O’Connor) and Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) have been best friends, tensions start to appear between them when they meet Tashi Duncan (Zendaya). Then, the film explores the life of Tashi, who has turned coach in the meantime and made her husband a Grand Slam champion. However, soon, he experiences a losing streak, and this is the reason why Tashi enrols him in a Challenger event, where he needs to face his former best friend and her former lover on the court. What will happen next? We don’t know yet, but we can’t wait to see. 

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a highly anticipated movie in 2024 because the previous film, Mad Max: Fury Road, was a really excellent action movie. Additionally, this sequel is expected to be a great one, as it is directed by George Miller, who is a master filmmaker and knows how to do his job. The release date is on May 24, and we can’t wait to see Anya Taylor-Joy playing her part as the young Furiosa before becoming Imperator. This movie will focus on the post-apocalyptic tale, where Furiosa is stolen for her home, and she needs to get past Warlord Demetus, played by Chris Hemsworth if she wants to return home.

A production of this type must always have great preparation, as the actors have to be well-chosen, the costumes need to be fantastic, and the special effects should amaze spectators. Additionally, companies from the filmmaking industry must ensure they have adopted good security measures and prepare for any bad scenarios, including data breaches. We can only expect to see something bloody, twisty and dramatically lit, which will surely amaze the spectators. 

Joker: Folie à Deux

Joker was a revelation back in 2019, and this is why Joker: Folie à Deux is one of the most anticipated movies of this year, which will be released on 4 October. Plus, this sequel will bring Lady Gaga into the role of Harley Quinn, which is going to be a fantastic addition to the movie. There have already been rumours that the movie will use Gaga’s vocal talents for some musical scenes, and we can’t wait to see if that will be true or not. 

Wicked: Part One

Wicked: Part One will focus on the story of the Wicked Witch of the West, which others know under the name of Elphaba. The movie is based on the Broadway musical of the same name and invites us to the land of Oz to discover better the story of the Green Witch and how she became the way we currently know her. The movie is split into two parts and is expected to add something fresh to the musical but still be guided by the original story. Plus, who wouldn’t want to see Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp and Ariana Grande as Galinda Upland, a good witch from Oz? 

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim

2024 will also bring an animated Lord of the Rings, set 261 years before the events of The Two Towers. The movie will shine a light on the history of Helm Hammerhand, the king of Rohan. From this movie, we can expect an animated fantasy epic, which will mix high-thrilling adventures with stellar visual storytelling. Plus, the movie will be directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who did wonders in the anime Ghost in the Shell. 

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the new sequel of this movie, which will take place three hundred years after the events from the War for the Planet of the Apes. In this world, Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand) is not a legend but someone who takes advantage of his power and enslaves his fellow apes and humans to benefit from human technology only for himself. In this space, Noa, a young chimpanzee, becomes the hero who tries to restore humanity, although his chances seem low. Considered one of the best sci-fi films that was released recently, the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will hit theatres on May 24.
