The Godfather and Godfather Part II Cast and Crew Reunite At Tribeca Film Festival
Family Affair
♦The Godfather was released 45 years ago and The Godfather Part II came out on 1974. Last week at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, director Francis Ford Coppola, stars Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro and more, sat down to discuss the two seminal films. Here is that video in full…
Francis Ford Coppola, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and Talia Shire took to the stage to discuss the film’s complicated origin story during the panel hosted by Taylor Hackford.
“I was attracted to it because I thought it was a foreign author, and an intellectual book about power,” Coppola remembered seeing the book before he had signed onto to direct the film adaptation. But on cracking the cover, he did have a few reservations. “I was disappointed in the book when I first read it because it’s very long,” he said. “Much of the book — about a third — is about Lucy Mancini’s anatomy.”
Shire, Coppola’s sister, remembered that her involvement in the movie was a bit contentious at the time. “I asked for an audition,” she remembered. “It was tough for me, and it was tougher for my brother. The director’s job was up for grabs.”
