Jurassic World Congratulates Star Wars

The Dinosaurs Are Magnanimous in Defeat

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has beaten 2015’s previous box office record breaker, Jurassic World, but the makers of the dinosaur blockbuster have offered their congratulations to Abrams and Co. In an image tweeted by Jurassic World producer Frank Marshall, a T-Rex is seen passing a medal on to new Star Wars droid BB-8.

With the numbers now in, it now seems that Star Wars has narrowly beaten the previous record holders, raking in 529 million US dollars (£355m) compared with Jurassic World’s $524.9 m (£352 million).

Disney said in a statement: “With final numbers now in, Star Wars: The Force Awakens rose above estimates to post an all-time industry-high $248m dollars (£166m) domestically, plus $281m (£188m) internationally for an all-time record global debut of $529m since opening December 16.”
