Hannah Berry, who is the current Comics Laureate with an impressive comics creating career in her own right, has just launched an ambitious undertaking, an online questionnaire for UK comics professionals to get a sense of how they are coping in the current environment…

for the last few months I’ve been putting together a project to conduct a survey on everyone making comics in the UK, and it has just gone live! It can be found here: https://research.audiencesurveys.org/s.asp?k=158626405018
The questions cover who we are and what we do (generally-speaking, I mean: it’s all anonymous); how much we make from different sources and to what extent we’re having to subsidise that; what obstacles we’re facing and what support we need to keep on making and selling comics; as well as (new for 2020!) how much of an affect the pandemic has had on livelihoods and working practises. It’s been built by the Audience Agency and funded by Arts Council England, the British Council and the University of Dundee.
There’s also a mailing list you can sign up to to receive the final report as soon as it’s announced, as well as details of any upcoming events planned to discuss the findings further.
