BHP Comics End The Year With A Splash

BHP Comics are ending 2018 with a bang, signing with two new outlets, two new books and making a brand new role within the company. Here’s their official press release…

BHP has had a packed year in 2018, publishing more books than ever before, bringing authors to the Edinburgh International Book Festival, sending books to every local authority high school in Scotland and being shortlisted for the Saltire Society’s Publisher of the Year.

BHP are getting ready for another record year ahead.

We are thrilled to announce we’ll be represented in North America by SCB, a California based book trade distributor. SCB is a family-built business now responsible for over 200 publishers. SCB will take delivery of hundreds of BHP books early next year, ready to send them off into new territories. BHP signed with Turnaround UK in early 2018 and continue to send books to bookshops all over the UK through them.

We are also making international strides on digital platforms, signing with Izneo to create specialised comics for their platform. Izneo, originally created for Franco-Belgian comics online has diversified, looking to bring in high quality international content in English and translation. From next year our titles will be available to buy and read via their app all over the world across smart devices and Nintendo Switch. This will be the best place to get your pocket-sized BHP comics. We’re excited to make our books available online internationally and support enterprises like Izneo.

Sha Nazir, BHP ‘s director: ‘We’ve made big strides at BHP, coming from a small cooperative to publishing quality books. This is the next important step for our growth and we’re very excited to take it and take BHP ‘s books further and to new audiences who haven’t seen what we’re up to yet.’

We’re thrilled to be the new home of award-winning Dungeon Fun, an all ages adventure starring Fun Mudlifter, and Rolled a One, an award-winning D&D inspired story. Bell and Slorance are exciting talents, with both having worked for Titan’s Doctor Who Comic, Bell lettering comics for Boom!, Image and Titan and Slorance making political comics for The National newspaper and previously for STV. Dungeon Fun is the winner of several SICBA awards including Best Writer, Best Artist and Best Comic. Since its original publication in 2015, Dungeon Fun has been found critical acclaim and we are excited to bring this book to a a new audience across the UK, USA and Canada. Dungeon Fun will be released in 1 May 2019

Chris Baldie’s Rolled a One won Best Artist for Rolled a One at the 2018 SICBA Awards. Baldie is an accomplished writer, artist and designer. Rolled a One is scheduled for release in Summer 2019.

Sha Nazir, director at BHP Comics: ‘We’re pleased to be able to bring Dungeon Fun and Rolled a One to BHP, both really colourful, family friendly and enjoyable reads. They’re both perfect books for sending into the US and Canadian book market, to help spearhead the export of books from Scotland. Roll on 2019!’

Colin Bell, writer of Dungeon Fun is very happy to be part of BHP: ‘We’re delighted to be signing with BHP Comics – it’s a treat to be showcased alongside some of our favourite creators and have Dungeon Fun become label-buddies with worthwhile books, such as Full Colour and We Shall Fight Until We Win. The great work BHP is doing in putting out diverse works made it a very easy decision when we were asked to come along.’

BHP is also extremely pleased to welcome Gary Chudleigh onboard as our freelance Creative Producer. Gary is already hard at work developing TV and film pitches for our ongoing cross-media strategy. Gary’s work has already received some encouraging results and we look forward to what he will achieve as part of the team.
