Which Shows Are Sticking Around And Which Are Going?
♦TV shows have such a precarious lifespan these days, especially with the different ways that people are consuming them. So courtesy of our friends over at IMDB.com, we have put together a list of some of the genre shows and their fate. Here is the first raft of shows…
Renewed: Vikings
Announced: 17 March
This show will have an impressive 20 episode season five and this show, like Game of Thrones without dragons, has found its niche.
Renewed: Gotham
Announced: 16 March
Fox has renewed their hit DC show for a third season. The show has been a relatively strong performer in what has been a tough season for the network, averaging a 1.5 live and same-day rating among adults 18 to 49. It has proven to be more enjoyable for us than CW’s Arrow.
Cancelled: Person of Interest
Announced: 16 March
CBS announced that the fifth season of this sci-fi/procedural will be its last. The final season will debut 23 May. There is a slim possibility that it may get picked up somewhere else.
Renewed: Better Call Saul
Announced: 15 March
AMC’s Breaking Bad prequel will be returning for a third season. The network cited its strong time-shifted viewing numbers in the press release announcing its renewal. The first four episodes of Season 2, which is currently airing, have averaged 4.4 million viewers in ratings, which is pretty decent
Renewed: Outcast
Announced: 14 March
Fox’s latest supernatural series doesn’t start until 3 June but the channel have already commissioned it for a second series. Based on The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman’s Image comic, they are betting that exorcists will be as popular as zombies.
Renewed: Shadowhunters
Announced: 14 March
Freeform ordered a second season of the fantasy show based on the hit books of the same name thanks to its popularity on social media.
Renewed: Arrow
Announced: 11 March
A fifth series for the hit CW show based on DC’s Emerald Archer with Stephen Amell continuing in the title role. Five seasons is impressive and it may well make it to seven eventually.
Renewed: The Flash
Announced: 11 March
Barry Allen and friends will be back for a third season in the show that began as a spin-off from Arrow. This is a show that we here have been enjoying more than its progenitor recently.
Renewed: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
Announced: 11 March
The superhero/ supervillain team-up show will be getting a second series on the CW even though it is still one of the most expensive shows they produce.
Renewed: iZombie
Announced: 11 March
The show based on the Vertigo book of the same name will be seeing a third season, which has come as a little bit of a surprise to us here.
Renewed: Supernatural
Announced: 11 March
The long-running supernatural investigative show will be starting its twelth season next time, which is pretty amazing as it began life feeling like a bit of a Buffy The Vampire Slayer retread.
