New Marvel comedy coming to ABC

damage-control-volume-2-#2-coverdamage-control-2-coverAccording to the Hollywood Reporter,  ABC has ordered a script for a half-hour, single-camera comedy from the Avengers studio.

Marvel’s Damage Control centers on the overworked and underpaid clean-up crew of the Marvel Universe. Their specialty is dealing with the aftermath of the fallout from superhero conflicts, like returning lost ray guns to their rightful owners, rescheduling a wedding venue after it has been vapourized in a battle or even tracking down a missing prize African parrot that’s been turned to stone or goo. Sometimes the most important heroes are the ones behind the scenes.

The concept is based on Marvel Comics’ Damage Control, which debuted back in 1989. To date, four limited series have been released.

Ben Karlin (The Daily Show, Modern Family) developed the project and will exec produce with David Miner (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parks and Recreation) and Marvel’s head of television, Jeph Loeb. ABC Studios and Marvel Television will produce.

Interestingly, Marvel isn’t the only comics company trying their hand at making people laugh. In August, NBC gave a pilot production commitment to DC Comics’ Powerless, which comes from A to Z creator Ben Queen and Warner Bros. TV.

Damage Control marks the latest collaboration between Marvel and ABC, which already shows Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter. The two are also working on a pilot, Marvel’s Most Wanted, centred on the Mockingbird and Lance Hunter characters, as well as a secret  projectfrom American Crime creator John Ridley.
