Living On The Edge

♦ We always like to support comic kickstarters here on Tripwire and Baden James Mellonie and Paul Peart-Smith’s Edge Of Extinction issue two looks like a worthwhile project. Here’s some details…

Edge of Extinction is an ongoing, real-time zombie comic set in Bedford, England. A mix of 24 meets Dawn of The Dead, with a real emphasis on characterization, the comic features four issue arc’s focusing on different groups of survivors.

Issues 1-24 all take place on Day 1 of a zombie outbreak, six different groups of characters struggle to come to terms with what is happening around them in four issue arcs. In real time. Issue 25 will join collective characters together and establish a core group of characters.

Who lives? Who dies? Well that is partially down to the readers, decision’s being made on reader comments and reaction.

Written and created by Bedford-born Baden James Mellonie and artist Paul Peart-Smith, featuring covers by Stephen Sampson, David Millgate and Ryan Brown issue 1 was released successfully in May 2015. It received critical acclaim and was well received by critics, comic and horror fans alike.

So why Edge of Extinction?

What’s the difference between this and other zombie books out there?

Well, firstly it’s set in real-time. It’s in your face, reactionary. It’s how we would react in similar circumstances. My wife is at work, where are the kids? Are my parents OK? These questions are what will be driving us, not World- scale issues.

Secondly, we’ve got some surprises. The zombies are not just extra’s in this book, they are also characters. And the zombies are not too easy to predict either.

Thirdly, main characters. Our main roster of characters changes for the first 24 issues. So we can develop a wider range of characters for you, the reader to love or hate. This means that i can really focus on different types of character. Bedford has a large Italian, Polish and Asian community, expect them to be represented. We also have a disabled character and a young girl, whose perspective changes the comic from black and white to colour.

Four. Setting. Real place locations, set in small town England. Unimportant to most. No capitol city. Real people. Real problems.

Five:- The creators. A truly amazing team of artistic talent is working on this book. Hugely experienced.
