Debuting on 1 January, the fourth season of the acclaimed drama picks up following the death of Season Three villain Magnussen and the apparent return of James Moriarty, as John and Mary prepare for their biggest challenge yet: parenthood. Although that description does sound cheery enough, the trailer does make it clear it may be a little bit downbeat.

BBC Worldwide North America and Fathom Events announced on Friday that the Season Four finale will receive a limited cinema release in the United States on 16 January and 18 January 2017.
