Face To Face Creative Portraits Is So Close To Its Final Stretch Goal Now
A True London Chronicler
Face To Face Creative Portraits is past its second stretch goal and only £400 away from £5000 where everyone gets a signed photo print. Here’s a look at another subject in the book, Christopher Fowler…
Christopher Fowler was a writer who originally worked in marketing in film but when he lost his business partner, and couldn’t bear the thoought of running things on his own, he decided to switch full-time to writing, something he had already been doing for a number of years already. His Bryant & May books, chronicling the cases of a pair of very unusual elderly London detectives, were clever, funny and always entertaining. I interviewed him a few times and photographed him mainly at his flat in King’s Cross and a temporary flat nearby when they were remodelling his home. Sadly he passed away from cancer in March of last year but we built up a genuine rapport whenever we met and he was a very distinctive portrait subject.

In over thirty years as a professional journalist I have interviewed pretty much every mover and shaker in the worlds of comics, film, TV and genre. Also if I have been lucky enough to do it face to face, I have always made sure I can capture them with one of my own photos. So I thought it was time to try and encapsulate this in a book. Face to Face features 50 subjects from the worlds of comics, film, TV, books and genre, offering a snapshot if you’ll pardon the pun of my career as a journalist and a photographer. Shooting portraits sometimes with only a few minutes to do this at a press event or a convention rather than the comfort of a creator’s home or studio surroundings can be a challenge. For me creating a portrait is intended to be a piece that reflects the essence of the subject that I have shot and that is why I like to photograph people that I have interviewed as I already have a rapport with the subject.
Here’s where to pledge on the book and help us get to the final stretch goal, £5000, where everyone gets a signed photo print
