Coen Brothers Reunite For New Netflix Mystery Jack Of Spades

Dealing From A New Deck

The Coen Brothers haven’t worked together for eight years but this week, news has surfaced that Jack Of Spades, an American Gothic mystery, is coming next year to Netflix after an autumn 2027 theatrical release. Here’s a few details courtesy of Deadline…

Joel Coen directs Jack of Spades from a screenplay he wrote with Ethan Coen and Eleanor Catton and Conor McPherson. The project marks their first teaming up behind the scenes in quite some time after they’ve separately made their own movies: Joel with Apple’s The Tragedy of Macbeth starring Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand, and Ethan with the crime comedies Drive-Away Dolls and Honey Don’t!

Jack of Spades, which is billed as a movie with intrigue and betrayal set in the Scottish Highlands, stars Patsy Ferran (A Streetcar Named Desire, Mickey 17), Josh O’Connor (Challengers, Wake Up Dead Man, God’s Own Country), Damian Lewis (Homeland, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood) and Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, The Crown, Another Year). The project is based on Frances Frederica Montrésor’s 1901 novel The Alien: A Story of Middle Age.

Joel Coen reunites here with Oscar-nominated cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel (Inside Llewyn Davis) and longtime composer Carter Burwell, who the brothers have worked with since their 1984 feature directorial debut Blood Simple.

Producers are Robert Graf, McDormand and Joel Coen, Steven Rales for Indian Paintbrush, Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin for Blueprint Pictures. Donald MacKinnon is an EP.

As longtime fans of the brothers here at Tripwire, we are excited to see them teaming up again.
