Bloom County Returns to Print With ‘A New Hope’ Trailer

IDW Issue First ‘Bloom County’ Collection in a Quarter Century

♦ Next month IDW Publishing oversee the long-awaited return of Berkeley Breathed’s Bloom County to print in ‘Bloom County Episode XI: A New Hope — and if that title sounds like something found in a galaxy far, far away, wait until you see the trailer.

Brand-new strips created by Breathed since Bloom County‘s surprise return last year from its extended hiatus are collected in the 144-page paperback. None of them has appeared in print before.

Bloom County’s original run ended in 1989, followed by the Sunday-only strip Outland, featuring many Bloom County characters. After Outland ended in 1995, Breathed had a break, returning with everyone’s favourite penguin Opus from Bloom County between 2003-2008.

Bloom County returned without warning on Facebook in July last year. Breathed spoke to Heat Vision about his return to the strip: “At this moment in life, I was absolutely supposed to be in the Old Cartoonist Nursing Home in Albuquerque playing for vodka shots with Gary Larson and Bill Watterson, competing to see who could make the nurses pretend to laugh with our sketches. As God is my witness, I don’t know what the &@#% happened.”
